Director, Alumni Relations

As the Director of Alumni Relations at MIT World Peace University, Pune, the predominant nature of my work involves engaging with and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders through communications, networking events, achievement showcasing, and training and development initiatives.

FLAME UNIVERSITY, Pune (January 2019 – January 2022)

Director, Alumni Relations; Coordinator - Experiential Learning Programs; Director - Student Engagement

  • Established and monitored the system to track, collate and update alumni data from scratch, successfully updating the latest and previous career information of more than 80% of the (then) total alumni
  • Oversaw the launch of FLAME AlumNet, the university’s exclusive alumni portal, including its functional requirements, content population and quick-adoption strategy
  • Liaised with the Heads and Chapter Representatives of the FLAME Alumni Club (non-registered alumni association) to conceptualize networking, learning & development and other engagement interventions
  • Created and supervised the student-run Alumni Relations Cell, ensuring the smooth functioning of its Data & Outreach; Events; and Content & Creative teams
  • Ideated and Coordinated with the Marketing team to showcase alumni achievements/ career developments via periodic updates on the FLAME University website, social media posts and internal newsletters
  • Developed and updated the alumni governance manuals and managed any information and documentation requirements for accreditations/ certifications such as NAAC, NIRF, QS I·GAUGE, and ISO 210001:2018
  • As the official Alumni Relations Office point of contact; communicated with alumni to address their queries/ concerns and to organize online and offline alumni reunions, speaker series, chapter meets, structured alumni mentorship programmes
  • Maintained, interpreted and used data and charts from the Salesforce Dashboards to offer customized support to the following functions: Admissions; Marketing & Outreach; Marketing & Communications; Placement Office; Experiential Learning Programs; ERP; Career Counselling; and Academic departments

FORBES INDIA, Mumbai (January 2016 – January 2019)

Editor (Online) & Head – Events

  • Led the comprehensive revamp of the ForbesIndia.com website making it mobile responsive, and capable of showcasing more editorial content, with greater options for display/ native advertising
  • Handled social media channels for Forbes India, and planned for increase in following through a purpose-driven strategy
  • Pushed new content acquisitions, with the number of active Bloggers growing by more than 50 percent, and number of active ‘B-School’ contributors growing by 140 percent
  • Initiated ‘Facebook Lives’ for Forbes India, which is now an established engagement tool for editorial coverage, topical discussions, special events, and sponsor-driven initiatives
  • Co-anchored the annual ‘Celebrity 100’ (2016 & 2017) and '30 Under 30' (2018) issue for Forbes India, besides periodically contributing as a writer for the website and the magazine
  • Created two new social media channels for Forbes India: LinkedIn and SoundCloud
    Was closely involved with concept and talking-points ideation, database management, guest identification, coordination and invitation, press release creation, and social media and online promotions of various roundtables and events including the Forbes India Leadership Awards, Forbes India W-Power Trailblazers 2017, CEO Dialogues, Forbes India Conversations, Forbes India LeaderSpeak, and The Forbes India Trophy

As a vertical lead, my core responsibility is to implement the vision and goals of the national/ global heads.

  • Through revamp of all internal pages, fresh content acquisitions, topical coverage, spectacular slideshows and vibrant front-page programming, increased the Finance section’s monthly pageviews by 250-330 percent over three years.
  • Fronting the sponsored ‘Union Budget Coverage’ over three years, always exceeded targets by 25-50 percent. The coverage included a mix of ‘Live’ Minute-by-Minute Budget Speech and Markets Commentary, Videos, Slideshows of Consolidated Highlights, Analysis and reactions; Chat sessions with Market and Personal Finance Experts and Social Media promotion.
  • Winner of the Best Column/Blog Award at Yahoo's (internal) Global Edit Awards for Q3 2014

Deputy Editor

  • Ran the website operations alongside the Editor; programming the front page, making slideshows and sending out daily newsletters
  • Served as the crucial link during the revamp and transition of the old website to the new one
  • In early 2010, wrote a weekly ‘personal finance’ column using the pseudonym Dr Finance. I was also invited to speak on the ‘Inside Business’ show on Dubai’s City7 TV channel

  • Producing eye-catching headlines and ensuring that all shows/ ‘breaking news’ on the CNBC-TV18 Business News channel were put up on the website
  • Ranking the order in which the uploaded content was displayed on all relevant pages
  • Ensuring highest standards of subbing and presentation by liaising with reporters, subeditors, designers and picture artists
  • Editing video files and uploading news copies and videos on the website

Work Profile comprised of electronic newsgathering (on-field and press conferences), writing to television visuals, tête-à-tête interviewing, filing original features, and translating news from regional stringer’s news reports to English.

  • Covered the Maharashtra State Elections of both - the Chief Minister and Governor (pre-elections candidates’ selections, public meetings, rallies, to swearing-in of the Cabinet Ministers and Ministers of State)
    Covered major crime investigations and attended Court hearings of high-profile cases such as the 1993 Mumbai-blasts and Best Bakery incidents
  • Regularly covered events organised by the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and the Coast Guard, including major announcements such as procurement of equipment and hosting of dignitaries
  • Covered on-locations shoots of films, film launches and releases, music releases, film features, celebrity-visits to India, one-on-one special interviews
